NIGHT SHOOTING WITH NON-VISIBLE LASER
In this exercise, performed in the Sniper Level 3 course, we observe the use of a designated Laser. In any situation, where there is the slightest opportunity for the enemy to have night vision equipment, we do not advise the use of this type of targeting system.
In some very exceptional cases, IR laser illuminators are used to illuminate the target two seconds before shooting. This is an exceptional use that can give away our position, just as if we had turned on a high-powered flashlight at night.
We also have this problem with laser rangefinders. This is the reason why they are practically not used in operations and are relegated to being used in training. The way to measure distance is with the MIL-DOT reticle, a technique that any Sniper must master.
